Alan Gurley has served as Monroe County Coroner since 1992.

Alan began working in the funeral business in Aberdeen in 1979 and in law enforcement in 1981, employed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. He has attended many schools, receiving literally hundreds of hours of training in death investigation from the top investigators and forensic experts from throughout the nation. Mississippi statutes require that any death affecting the public interest be reported immediately to the coroner of the county in which that death occurs. In all such cases, any person who willfully moves, distributes, conceals, embalms, buries or cremates a body or body part of a decedent may be charged with a misdemeanor and may be punished by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500) and/or by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months in the county jail.
